Masahisa Fukase began the decade of work on The Solitude of Ravens (originally the photobook Karasu (Ravens) in Japan) after the dissolution of his marriage. Previously known for putting his wife at the center of his photography, his immersion in the environment and patterns of his native ravens resulted in a starkly beautiful, bleak and timeless collection of photographs.

All photographs are from Sobol’s collection Arrivals and Departures.

Jacob Aue Sobol traveled from Moscow to Beijing on the Trans-Siberian during 2012-2014, making numerous stops in rural communities along the way. He photographed the landscape and people he encountered, but Arrivals and Departures is not a work of documentary photography. Intimate, personal, and starkly beautiful, it is a collection to be absorbed in its entirety. (Hint: Sobol’s site is a great place to start.)
